Hardcastle Crags 27th October.

On a fallen conifer trunk...
Possibly Gymnopilus hybridus. One of the Rustgills.

A Russula - one of the Brittlegills. When it was entire it was scarlet with a black centre.

Broadhead Clough 25-10-13

Seven of us joined Jim Horsfall form the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to record the grassland species in the meadows above the clough. We had a very productive day and the fields were abundant with a variety of different species ranging from waxcaps to the the parasitic Powdercap Strangler.

Slimy Waxcap (Hygrocybe irrigata).

Heath Waxcap (Hygrocybe laeta).

Scout Road Park 21-10-13

A couple of our finds whilst playing in the park after school and you can just see Oliver in the background on the right with his friend Jude.

Weeping Widow (Lacrymaria lacrymabunda) - above and below. The largest one had been kicked over and damage must have occurred to the gills and they were not weeping opalescent droplets but you can see them on the one I picked to take home in the photograph below.

Spores 8.5 - 10.5 x 5.5 -7

Pleated Inkcap (Parasola plicatilis).

Date Waxcap Hygrocybe spadicea ? (Sorry got the I.d. wrong. It's H. conica, Blackening Waxcap. See comments. SB)

If so it's the second one for Calderdale. This was on a mossy, unfertilised lawn on acid sandy soil in the Saville Park area of Halifax.
I have the specimen. All these pictures are of the one today.

The other I found at Wade Wood Fields on 8th October 1995 on a foray with Roy Watling, Alan Braddock, Bob Taylor and others (a joint Halifax Scientific Society and Mid-Yorkshire Fungus Group Foray.)  Said to be a new record for V.C. 63 at the time by Michael Sykes.

Same mushroom below in its blackened state on 30.10.13
confirming H.conica

Broadhead Clough 22-10-13

I had a short walk up to to Broadhead with Basil in the persistent rain but it was worth it to see the new species of fungi that have appeared since my previous visit.

Slimy Waxcap (Hygrocybe irrigata) - above and below. It was so slimy that I had a job picking it up!

Smoky Spindles (Clavaria fumosa) - above and below. Quite a few more clusters have appeared since the last visit.

Variable Webcap (Cortinarius anomalus).

Scarlet Waxcap (Hygrocybe coccinea). Absolutely beautiful!

Meadow Waxcap (Hygrocybe pratensis).

Snowy Waxcap (Hygrocybe virginea).

Jellybaby (Leotia lubrica).

Earthy Powdercap (Cystoderma amianthinum), apologies for the horrendous photograph.

Yellowleg Bonnet (Mycena epipterygia).

Oak Pin (Cudoniella acicularis).

Shaggy Inkcap (Coprinus comatus).
